Stop Fad Diets – Get the Body You Want

stressWe all want to look our best, and unfortunately we usually aren’t happy with the way we look. That is why whenever a new diet that has had any substantial proven results, it becomes the next biggest diet. Everyone wants to try it and some achieve weight loss and some don’t. People spend billions of dollars worldwide on books and programs that promote this new diet. That is, until the next one comes along to take its place.

This vicious cycle has been around for decades but it has increased rapidly in the last five years. No matter how many different diets are invented, there are still those desperate people who can’t lose weight. Why? Well, most of the diets that become fad diets are radical, impractical, and some are dangerous to your health. A restriction from any type of natural food is not good for the body. Remember that wonderful little pyramid that taught you how to eat in grade school? Well, do you remember any of those sections having a big X over it? No.

If you really want to lose weight, first you need to think “why lose weight?” What is your motivation? Do you need to lower your cholesterol? Are you looking to get fit and look good? Do you want to prevent heart disease or diabetes when you get older? All of these will result from a balanced, nutritional diet, but not from any fad diet. Don’t you wonder why they are only fads? How does weight loss happen with these diets? Well, the blunt answer to that is short term. No one can stick with a crazy diet. So they lose a little weight, break down and revert back to their original diet and put that weight back on. They invest in the next fad diet, see some results again but fail once more to keep it off. This yo-yo dieting is dangerous to that persons health.

So, how does weight loss happen for good? Well, the best thing to do is take a sensible, healthy step to change your lifestyle to the better. Practice this new step until it becomes a force of habit and then move on to the next. Allow yourself some treats but stay strong. Baby steps are the easiest steps to take! Don’t set yourself up for failure with these fad diets.
